Standard 2.0T, same twin clutch AWD system the Focus RS (and LaCrosse and Acadia) uses, and a liftback over a traditional truck? Count me in.
The interior takes on a sort of mini-LaCrosse vibe. I dig it.
The wagon look pretty good too, plastic cladding aside. It’s kinda an odd middle child between the Outback/Golf Sportwagen and Allroad, but it’s cool for see another wagon for sale in America.
I can’t wait for when these start showing up at work.

Smaller, cheaper A7 perhaps?

This makes up for the travesty that the wagon looks to be. It gets all my love for being a well-styled domestic liftback.

The press release name drops the A5 Sportback and 4 Series Gran Coupe so I’m guessing that’s who they’re shooting for, which might be a bit of a long shot but there aren’t many liftback cars for sale here.

Dude, I literally just hit up the Buick website to see what they’d do after Opel was sold to PSA and HHHHRRRNNNNNGNGGGGG I NEED ONE OF THESE
I think we’re seeing the new age of the liftback, and I fully support this (especially over the stupid things that BMW calls ‘GT’s)

I mean really outside of the “trick the US buying public into thinking its rugged” cladding, it’s still pretty darn pretty.
They should offer a painted cladding option like Audi does on the Allroad.

I guess with sedans dying you gotta find some way to make it stand out. A liftback in a sea full of trunks is a pretty good way. They’ve always made way more sense to me.

I did forget about those two. In regards to not many liftbakcs for sale, you can now cross shop Porsche and Buick.

That.... actually looks pretty close to the Avenir

Indeed. I love liftbacks, second only to wagons. They’re prettier than sedans IMO and lose out only to the “fuselage” aesthetic of wagons.

I feel like liftback rooflines decrease rear headroom 99% of the time but to me it’s worth it, plus I’m not sitting back there anyway!

If they are aiming at those I hope they really bring it, I love the A5 SB.

BMW and Audi sure but not Porsche.

Everyone is doing coupe like rooflines that take away from rear headroom anyway, might as well make the trunk more useful.

Wish they would use that smaller front emblem like the Avenir. Looks more sleek that way.

That is true, I really like this liftback resurgence.

Now if only we could get more 80s style 2 door liftback sports cars. Come one Toyota, Ford, and Mazda. do it. Mitsubishi too. I swear to God I’d buy a Mitsubishi if they made a New Starion that did the name justice.

Maybe. The sloping hood doesn’t help much. It’s like they’re trying to pull off a Volvo but with a smaller footprint.

Exactly look at the Fusion and MKZ. They are we so close. I remember some one interviewing a Lincoln rep back when the MKZ First debuted and they asked “why make such a small trunk instead of a liftback. The rep said something like “they’re still a stigma around hatchbacks and we don’t think our clientele would go for it”. Thankfully that mindset seems to be dieing out. Also I’m 6'1" and I lost a sale because my head hit the roof of when I sat in the back of a Fusion, back when I was selling new Fords. They ended up buying a Camry instead.

With the Panamara and A7 that brings the list to 5 certainly small enough to lump them in the same category. As long as it’s defined by body style and not pricing.

Any manual news?
![]() 04/04/2017 at 20:27 |

Press release says 9 or 8 speed auto only. Doesn’t entirely surprise me considering they killed off the manual option even for the current GS at the end of the ‘16 model year.

It’s growing on me. It isn’t as bad as it *could* be

I dig it. I’m having a hard time deciding which I want more: a LaCrosse or a Regal wagon. I wish they’d do a LaCrosse wagon, but that will never happen.

It looks generally really good, but the shape of the taillights really bug me.

The Kia Stinger is also on the way.
